Pre-emerging artists invade Preview Berlin´s contemporary art fair today

Above and right, works by Axel Anklam, who is now showing in Preview Berlin.

For the first time, Preview Berlin taps into pre-emerging talent at its annual contemporary art fair at Hangar 2 at Tempelhof airport: 9 – 11 September.

The “emerging art fair” hosts 64 galleries representing 213 artists from 15 nations and is expected to attract at least 10,000 visitors as it did last year.

An undisclosed number of art students from the Bauhaus University in Weimar, the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg are showing their works to a consuming public for the first time, according to a press release.

This is the fair´s inaugural "Focus Academy," a juried show of university art students just entering competitive art after training.

Two-thirds of the galleries are German and most of them from Berlin.

Other participating countries include: Austria, Great Britain, Denmark, France, Hungary, Israel, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovenia Spain and Switzerland.

Only Switzerland, Poland, the UK, and Denmark fielded more than one gallery.

Another new feature of the fair presents “Video Art Box” by Fresh Paint of Tel Aviv, featuring what fair promoters called “characteristic evocative and low budget works.”

Schir—Art Concepts, Berlin, helped conceive and organize the project.

I´ve spiced up this post with some images from randomly selected artists on the list the fair provided in its press kit.

After living at the Hotel Queen Mary in Budapest (3.5 stars), I heartily recommend it: old on the outside, otherwise totally modern (23 rooms);

The owner and staff are affable and speak English and German. Tel: 0036-1-413-3510; www.hotelqueenmary.hu; info@hotelqueenmary.hu.
